Local Attractions

Located between Asheville and Hendersonville and just off of Highway 25, Lutheridge is situated in the perfect location to be close to many attractions, while still giving the guest that "place apart" feeling.

Biltmore Estate: The Biltmore Estate is America's largest privately owned home built by George Vanderbilt over 100 years ago. Tour this 250-room chateau with its cutting edge 19th century technology and souvenirs from Vanderbilt's world travels. Visit landscaped gardens and grounds that showcase Western North Carolina's seasons and then travel to the nation's most-visited winery. Enjoy dining and shopping all located on the Biltmore Estates. Reduced price tickets are available through Lutheridge.

Thomas Wolfe Memorial: The early-twentieth-century boardinghouse called "Old Kentucky Home," was the childhood home of novelist Thomas Wolfe, perhaps the most overtly autobiographical of this country's major novelists.  The twenty-nine-room house is has recently re-opened after being closed for restoration following a fire that damaged much of the structure in July 1998.

Carl Sandburg Home: Located close to Flat Rock, NC, visit Carl Sandburg's home with its 264 acres of trails, forest, lakes, and beautiful views. The home and grounds of the Pulitzer Prizewinning writer is open daily from 9:00AM until 5:00PM (Closed December 25) for self-guided or guide-led tours. Trails to hike or benches to sit and enjoy the view. Goat barn and lively goats are a hit with kids!

The Grove Arcade: One of Western North Carolina's most historic buildings located in downtown Asheville, the Grove Arcade features local crafts, fresh food, and an array of restaurants representing the area's distinct mountain heritage. Public Market open Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; Sunday hours vary.

Chimney Rock Park: Take a deep breath of refreshing mountain air and become invigorated by the hiking trails at Chimney Rock. This is the perfect place to reconnect with nature and spend time with family and friends. The Park offers a spectacular 75-mile views, hiking trails for all ages, a 404-foot waterfall, Nature Center, Native Plant Nursery, a variety of special events and much more.

The Blue Ridge Parkway: With an entrance located just four miles from Lutheridge, the Blue Ridge Parkway is was designed as a recreational motor road connecting the Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks. The Parkway winds 469 miles along the Blue Ridge Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia. A drive down any part of the Parkway will provide the visitor with a cross-section of Appalachian mountain history. And ask our staff about different local hikes that can be found along the Parkway.

Pisgah National Forest: The Pisgah National Forest is located west of Lutheridge with over half a million acres of forest surrounding Mt. Pisgah. Once part of the Biltmore Estate (Mt. Pisgah can be seen from Mr. Vanderbilt's bedroom), the land was purchased, along with other sections of land, from Vanderbilt's widow in 1917. Hike through Pisgah and visit Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock, and the Cradle of Forestry (the birthplace of forestry conservation).
