LEAP: Adventure Activities
Our staff is eager to work with your group to accomplish the goals of your retreat,
whether we simply provide you with space, or if you choose to have our staff personally involved in the leadership of your retreat. Our staff is attentive to details and knows the surrounding area well to make your retreat a resounding success. Activities available at Lutheridge and Lutherock are:
Group Initiatives (Ri/Ro): These fun games can be done inside or outside and are used to help build community. The picture to the left is one example of initiatives known as the Cube. Our staff work with your group to select initiatives that best support and promote the goals for your retreat.
Group Interaction Course (Ri/Ro): This outdoor course helps build community through fun team-building exercises such as the Trolley, Energy Circle, the Wall, People Pass, All Aboard, and others. For a complete list of the elements and the general goals, click here. Processing of each element is customized to support and promote goals for
your retreat.
Intermediate and Advanced Ropes Course (Ro): Take the next step up from the GIC with either of these ropes courses. Groups learn that support and encouragement from the ground is just as important as working together to find the solution.
The Challenge or Alpine II Tower (Ri/Ro): As a group, learn the importance of not only working together as partners, but supporting and encouraging as a community. The Challenge Tower at Lutheridge and the Alpine II Tower at Lutherock offer opportunities for solo and partner activities.
NEW! Indoor Climbing Wall (Ri): Margaret's Mountain offers rock climbing inside.
Rock Climbing (Ro): Located on-site at Lutherock, a natural outcropping provides the challenge while enjoying the scenic beauty of the Appalachian Mountains A hike is included with the activity.
Environmental Activities (Ri/Ro): Learn more about the world around you and how to protect it with a tree walk, bug search, stargazing. Take a step further and ask the staff at Lutheridge and Lutherock to set up a visit with a naturalist at Grandfather Mountain or Chimney Rock.
Servant Project (Ri/Ro): Engage in a service project on-site at Lutheridge or Lutherock. Or tap into our contacts and ask us to set up a project in the area through a local agency.
Rafting (Ri/Ro): Take the day to have a scenic rafting trip down the Nolichucky (up to class IV rapids) or French Broad River (up to class III rapids). Available seasonally.
Canoeing (Ri): Rafting not your speed? Enjoy the calm waters of a canoeing trip down the French Broad. Available seasonally.
Caving (Ro): Take a trip to visit Whirley's Cave in Tennessee to crawl through naturally made tunnels.
Skiing (Ri/Ro): Ski or snowboard at Wolf Ridge (Lutheridge) or stay at Lutherock and ski at Sugar Mountain. Available seasonally.
